Predicted Newcastle United XI to face Wolves in the Premier League
Newcastle United managed to salvage a point with a 1-1 draw against Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday and the Magpies will face another tough test when they play host to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
Newcastle have somewhat managed to resurrect their faltering campaign with three wins in recent weeks but Rafael Benitez’s men need to do a lot more to stay up in the Premier League and they will be desperate to get a positive result from this fixture.
Wolves put an end to their losing streak in the Premier League and Nuno Espirito Santo’s men will be in high spirits after registering a remarkable comeback win against Chelsea in the mid-week clash.
Team News
Rafael Benitez has plenty of injuries to contend with for Sunday’s clash. Fabian Schar is suspended for having picked up five yellow cards while Paul Dummett (thigh), Robert Kenedy (toe) and Karl Darlow (elbow) are all set to face late fitness tests ahead of the game. Matt Ritchie will be back in contention after serving a one-game ban while Florian Lejeune and Jamie Sterry are long-term absentees for Newcastle.
Formation: 5-4-1
Manager: Rafael Benitez
Predicted XI
1. Martin Dubravka (GK)
He made some wonderful saves against Everton and has always been a reliable presence between the sticks this season.
2. Javier Manquillo (LB)
The former Liverpool man was a liability at left-back against Everton but he is likely to continue if Paul Dummett doesn’t make it.
3. Ciaran Clark (LCB)
The absence of Schar should open the door for the Irishman to get a start on Sunday.
4. Federico Fernandez (CB)
The Argentine international put in a wonderful performance at the heart of the defence in the last game.
5. Jamaal Lascelles (RCB)
The Englishman wasn’t at his best in the last game but he has been largely solid at the back this season.
6. DeAndre Yedlin (RB)
The American has shown a lot of energy in the attacking third but question marks still remain over his defensive game.
7. Mo Diame (CDM)
He put in a full-blooded performance against Everton and Newcastle will need him to be at the top of his game once again on Sunday.
8. Sung-Yueng Ki (CDM)
The Korean has been in good form in recent games and he will be expected to contribute a lot to the midfield with his passing and distribution.
9. Christian Atsu (RM)
The former Chelsea man had a decent game against Everton and should retain his place in the eleven.
10. Jacob Murphy (LM)
He showed a lot of energy in the last game and bagged the assist for Rondon’s goal with a brilliant cross.
