We are in the business end of the Cincinnati Masters as only three matches are left before the champion is crowned. World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev takes on a confident Stefanos Tsitsipas in one of the semifinals.
The Russian tennis pro has been in scintillating form at the Cincinnati Masters. He came into the tournament on the back of a debacle at Montreal where he lost in the first round against Nick Kyrgios. However, at Cincinnati, Daniil Medvedev is yet to drop a set.
He started off with a win against Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4, 7-5. In the round of 16, he eased past Denis Shapovalov 7-5, 7-5. Medvedev had a stern test awaiting him in the quarter-final in the form of Taylor Fritz. However, a dominant display from the 2021 US Open champion meant that he won the match 7-6 (7-1), 6-3.
The Greek tennis pro is on the hunt for his third title in 2022. He already bagged titles in Monte-Carlo and Mallorca. At the Canadian Open that preceded Cincinnati Masters, Stefanos Tsitsipas exited in the first round, much like his upcoming opponent. The 24-year-old lost in straight sets to Jack Draper.
Tsitsipas began his campaign in Cincinnati with a comfortable 6-3, 6-4 win against Filip Krajinovic. In the round of 16, he outplayed Diego Schwartzman 6-3, 6-3. In the quarter-final, Tsitsipas had to dig deep against the veteran John Isner and the youngster eventually won 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 6-3.
The duo has faced each other on as many as 9 occasions. The head-to-head sits at 7-2 in favor of Medvedev. He won the first five encounters between the two of them. The head-to-head in the last four matches they have played against each other is evenly poised at 2-2.
Prediction: Daniil Medvedev to win in three sets.
