The quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Masters are upon us and we will undoubtedly be treated to some fine tennis when Jessica Pegula meets Caroline Garcia with a semi-final spot up for grabs.
Jessica Pegula
The American hasn’t won a title as yet in 2022 but she did make it to the final at the Madrid Open. She has shown glimpses of brilliance throughout the season.
At the Canadian Open, she had a fine campaign and managed to reach the semi-final stage before she was ousted by eventual champion Simona Halep. At the Cincinnati Masters, she lost the first set of her first match against Marta Kostyuk. However, in the following two sets, Pegula brought her A-game to the fore and outplayed the Ukrainian to win the match 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-2. In the round of 16, Pegula defeated the 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu in straight sets 7-5, 6-4.
Caroline Garcia
The Frenchwoman has had an impressive season thus far. She won the Bad Homburg Open title defeating Bianca Andreescu in the final. At the Poland Open, the 28-year-old bagged her second title in 2022.
After suffering a first-round exit at the Canadian Open, Garcia came back strongly to win two qualifiers and progress to the main round of the Cincinnati Masters. In the round of 64, Garcia made light work of Petra Martic. She followed it up with a hard-fought win against Maria Sakkari. In the round of 16, Garcia outclassed Elise Mertens to win the match 6-4, 7-5.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
Jessica Pegula leads the head-to-head 2-1. Garcia lost the first two encounters she had with Pegula but pulled one back at Sydney earlier this year.
We are backing Pegula to get the win in a closely-fought three-set affair.
Prediction: Jessica Pegula.
