The American tennis pro – Madison Keys will have her task cut out as she takes on world No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the round of 16 of the Cincinnati Open.
The 27-year-old made an impressive start to 2022 as she won a title in Adelaide. She followed it up with a semifinal run at the Australian Open. She also made it to the fourth round at Roland Garros. However, her performances in the other tournaments this year have not been anything to write home about.
Madison Keys was knocked out in the first round of the Canadian Open by Asia Muhammad. Not many would have fancied her chances of going deep in Ohio but she has brought her A-game at the tournament. She notched up a relatively comprehensive victory against Yulia Putintseva in the first round. In the round of 32, she faced 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko and defeated her in straight sets 6-4, 7-5.
The Polish tennis star has been in impeccable form this year. She bagged six titles in a row at one point in time. The first of them came at the Qatar Open. She followed it up with wins at the Indian Wells Masters, the Miami Open, the Stuttgart Open, the Italian Open, and the French Open.
At the Canadian Open, Beatriz Haddad Maia caused a major upset as she knocked out Swiatek in the round of 16. Swiatek will look to go the distance at the Cincinnati Masters and enter the upcoming US Open competition brimming with confidence.
The head-to-head comfortably sits at 2-0 in favor of Iga Swiatek. She is expected to extend the lead with a win in straight sets unless Madison Keys can pull off a monumental upset.
