The Cincinnati Masters has kicked off and matches are coming thick and fast. Jannik Sinner will lock horns with Miomir Kecmanovic in the round of 32 stage of the competition.
The Serbian progressed to the semifinals in the Bavarian International and the Los Cabos Open this year. He has also made it to the quarterfinals in five tournaments in 2022. So far he has won 30 out of the 47 matches he has played this season.
The 22-year-old was ousted in the first round of the Canadian Open. However, he started his campaign at Cincinnati with a win against Canadian Open champion Pablo Carreno Busta. The Spaniard outclassed Kecmanovic in the first set but the youngster showed great determination to eventually win the match 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).
The Italian tennis star won the Croatia Open and entered the Canadian Open will great confidence. However, his run was cut short in Montreal in the round of 16 by Pablo Carreno Busta. At Cincinnati, the 10th seed had to dig deep to win his first match against a determined Thanasi Kokkinakis. The Australian won the first set but Sinner showed great resilience to eventually get a 6-7 (9-11), 6-4, 7-6(8-6) victory.
Sinner has won 37 out of the 47 matches he has played thus far. Last year at this competition, Sinner lost in the round of 32 stages against John Isner.
Jannik Sinner leads the head-to-head 2-0. They met each other for the first time in 2019 at the Next Gen ATP Finals where Sinner won in four sets. Their last meeting came in 2021 in the Melbourne Summer Set 1 quarterfinals which Sinner won in straight sets.
Jannik Sinner is undoubtedly the favorite going into the match. We might see him defeat Kecmanovic in straight sets.
