Here’s everything you need to know about Pere Riba – the coach of United States’ tennis sensation Coco Gauff
Coco Gauff has provided clarity regarding her coaching arrangements, clearly detailing her situation with Pere Riba, whom she enlisted before Wimbledon, and Brad Gilbert, who is temporarily assisting her as a consultant.
Gilbert, renowned for coaching Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick and for his book “Winning Ugly,” has garnered attention after being seen practicing with Gauff in Washington D.C.
When questioned about her coaching preferences, the American player mentioned her focus on both short-term and long-term aspects. While her forehand requires some changes, Gauff seems to be considering a potential overhaul after the season, though not certain.
Gauff emphasized her positive rapport with Pere Riba, a former Spanish ATP player who most recently coached Zheng Qinwen. Regarding Brad Gilbert, Gauff is finding value in his presence and is reaping benefits from the company of the former World No.4.
However, there’s no confirmation yet on whether he will be with her at additional events this year. A potential alignment could work well during the US Open, given Gilbert’s commentating responsibilities that will keep him on-site throughout the event.
Pere Riba is a former professional tennis player from Spain. Born on April 7, 1988, he is best known for his skills on clay courts. Riba turned pro in 2006 and had a successful career in the sport, though he never reached the pinnacle of the rankings.
He achieved his highest ATP singles ranking of World No. 65 in May 2011. Despite not being a household name in the tennis world, Riba’s contributions to the sport and his notable wins against some higher-ranked players showcased his talent and determination.
Riba’s playing style was characterized by his strong baseline game and ability to perform well on clay surfaces. His consistent groundstrokes and tactical approach to matches made him a formidable opponent, particularly on slower courts.
Throughout his career, Riba participated in various ATP tournaments, particularly during the clay-court season. While he might not have achieved Grand Slam titles or major breakthroughs, his commitment to the game and his presence on the professional circuit left a mark in the tennis community.
