Former World No.1 Clijsters is making her comeback into professional tennis after seven years
Four-time Grand Slam winner Kim Clijsters recently made a comeback into WTA Tour after seven years away from professional tennis.
Clijsters, now 36 is a four-time Grand Slam winner and mother of three children. After spending some years on the sidelines, she recently made a comeback at the ongoing Dubai Duty Free Championship.
Meanwhile, Clijsters revealed that Coco Gauff, Simona Halep, and Naomi Osaka were some of the players who had impressed her and whom she would like to face.
Clijsters was answering to questions posed by BBC reporter Jane Dougall during an interview, during which the Belgian shared her views on her favourite players from the current era.
“Well, there are a few players, obviously since I have been commentating that I have really enjoyed watching. Coco Gauff, Simona Haleop is not a young player but someone who I have never played against and so when I have watched her play up close,”
“Naomi Osaka is a player who I enjoy watching and not just on the court but also her press conferences. So, there are some young players that I’ve really enjoyed watching grow in the last let’s say a year and a half two years.
“Yeah, Coco Golf is definitely a girl who I have my eyes on, especially in there and the big events,”
Clijsters suffers defeat in comeback
Meanwhile, Clijsters who returned to active tennis after seven long years by making her comeback in the ongoing Dubai Duty Championship suffered a defeat in the first game.
She crashed out of the tournament after losing in straight sets to Australian Open finalist, Spain’s Garbine Muguruza. Ninth seed Guburuza overcame the former World No.1, Clijsters, 6-2, 7-6.
“She has the tennis there. I’m sure she’s going to get better and better, for sure give us a lot of trouble,” said Muguruza after her win.
Clijsters will next feature at the WTA event in Monterrey, where also she received a wild card.
