Coco Gauff’s parents had NCAA Division I collegiate backgrounds in basket and track and field. Corey Gauff and Candi Gauff encouraged their daughter to try numerous sports during her younger days. Serena Williams and Venus Williams intrigued Coco and they were the reason behind her picking up a tennis racquet.
When Gauff was seven, her family moved back to Delray Beach so that she would have better training opportunities. They initially lived with her mother’s parents before getting their own house.
Gauff has two younger brothers, Codey and Cameron. Codey is four years younger while Cameron is nine years younger. Gauff won the Little Mo eight-and-under nationals at eight.
At 10, Gauff trained at Patrick Mouratoglou’s academy in France. She won the USTA Clay Court National 12-and-under title at the age of 10 years and 3 months and this made her the youngest champion in the tournament’s history.
Gauff began playing on the ITF Junior Circuit at the age of 13. She finished runner-up at her junior Grand Slam debut at the 2017 US Open.
