Coco Gauff will make her maiden appearance for the US, who will face Latvia in the Federation Cup (Fed Cup) at home
American teenage tennis sensation Coco Gauff shared a story of her attire for this month’s Federation Cup (Fed Cup) games via Instagram on Tuesday.
The 15-year old was for the first time inducted into the US national side and would be playing alongside legend Serena Williams, Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin, Alison Riske and Bethanie Mattek-Sands respectively.
The teenager’s excitement of featuring in the national side for the first time was clearly visible in the story she had shared via the social media handle along with a caption that read: “Swagged out”.
With her selection, Gauff would now be playing her maiden Federation Cup tournament and will be looking to put up a good performance in USA’s Federation Cup tie at home against Latvia.
The winner of the Fed Cup held in Everett, Washington, will advance to the 2020 Fed Cup finals in April in Budapest, Hungary. The finals will be held in a new format this year, with 12 nations battling it out for the title.
Second-youngest American Fed Cup member
Moreover, Gauff would be the second-youngest American Fed Cup representative ever, after former Olympic and major winner Jennifer Capriati.
Gauff rose to prominence last year when she reached the fourth round of Wimbledon ousting some big names like Venus Williams along the way.
The teenager also made it to the third round of the US Open and won a WTA title at Linz, Austria during the end of the season.
Gauff proved her credentials once again during the recently concluded Australian Open. The youngster looked in good form until she was beaten in the fourth round by countrymate and eventual champion Sofia Kenin.
Meanwhile Gauff’s teammate Serena last played the Fed Cup in 2018 and would be eager to prove a point after suffering a shocking third-round exit at the Australian Open.
