Colin Kaepernick Career
Kaepernick started his college football career with the Nevada university team in 2007 as a back up quarterback. He finished his first year with 2,175 passing yards in the 11 games he played for the team. Kaepernick played for his college for five years up until 2011. In the 2011 season he was picked by the 49ers as their second round 36th pick.
Kaepernick spent the whole 11-12 season as the backup quarterback for Alex Smith and never really got to showcase his talent. His first NFL start came almost after more than a year on November 9th 2012 against the Chicago Bears. The next two years proved to be very important for him as he continued to rise up through the ranks.
Kaepernick signed a new deal in 2014 with the 49ers which guaranteed him $12.4 million annually. His career eventually started to decline from the 2015 when the 49ers appointed a new coach. The 2015 season was also very injury prone for the quarterback and he underwent three surgeries that season.
In the 2016 season, the 49ers eventually decided to release him and Kaepernick had to opt out from his contract after the end of the season. Since then he has been a free agent and is yet to sign a professional contract again.
