Colin Kaepernick to tryout in front of NFL scouts in hope of making sensational comeback

Former San Francisco 49ers QB is eyeing a comeback to the NFL this year after six years away from the sport.

Colin Kaepernick is still hopeful of returning to the NFL. The 34-year-old quarterback has not been part of the league since 2016 when he was released by the San Francisco 49ers.

Kaepernick has been a free agent ever since but he is trying everything in his power to get a contract with an NFL team. In fact, this weekend, he will be holding an exhibition throwing session in front of NFL scouts during halftime of the University of Michigan’s spring football game.

The two-time WAC Offensive Player of the Year will be throwing to NFL free agents in a bid to see whether he still got what it takes to be a QB in the NFL. It is reported that Kaepernick is also open to playing as a backup QB for any team in the league.

Kaepernick was controversially released by the 49ers in 2016 after he knelt during the national anthem prior to a game. Kaepernick knelt in protest of police brutality against members of the African-American community.

In 2019, Kaepernick settled with the NFL over a grievance he filed. The former 49ers star claimed that the 32 NFL teams colluded and refused to sign him due to his protests.

With Aaron Rodgers signing a new deal with the Packers, Kaepernick could end up joining the Green Bay outfit if the NFC North Division side opts to make a move for him. Kaepernick’s experience could prove to be handy for the Packers and the QB could serve as a more than decent No.2 after Rodgers.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll reportedly had more than one conversation with Kaepernick this offseason. However, earlier this week, Carroll revealed that those talks have not progressed any further.

The Kansas City Chiefs may also look toward signing Kaepernick in the offseason as a potential back up for Patrick Mahomes. Kaepernick did lead his San Francisco team to the Super Bowl in 2013 and if he impresses the scouts, the Chiefs may look to swoop in for the free agent.
