Liverpool vs Newcastle Ratings: Liverpool Player Ratings + Fans’ Reaction
Liverpool were given a fairly stern test at St. James’ Park by Rafa Benitez’s spirited Newcastle United side. Despite taking the lead twice within the first half, they were pegged back both times, thanks to goals from Christian Atsu and Salomon Rondon.
Liverpool were left pushing quite hard in the final minutes of a game yet again and it seemed like Manchester City had pushed them past the limit in the title race.
That was until the 86th minute though, as Divock Origi got the crucial touch on a Xherdan Shaqiri free-kick to give Liverpool a slender 3-2 win.
Here are the Liverpool Player Ratings:
Allison Becker – 6
The Brazilian keeper wasn’t in the best form as he looked shabby with the ball at his feet.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 8
The youngster has been in fine form all season and he was at it again as he notched up another fine assist.
Dejan Lovren – 6
Despite his fairly large stature and size, he was often bullied by Newcastle’s Salomon Rondon on the night.
Virgil Van Dijk – 7
Scored an absolutely monstrous header in the first half but wasn’t given a moment’s peace by Rondon after that.
Andy Robertson – 7
A pure bundle of energy down the flank, Robertson’s ability to pick up the ball and open up the play has been crucial.
Fabinho – 6
The Brazilian was far from his usual self and he struggled to find any kind of passing rhythm in the midfield.
Jordan Henderson – 5
The Englishman struggled to have too much of an impact in their attacking play and misplaced a few passes too.
Georginio Wijnaldum – 6
Did well to keep the ball moving but wasn’t given any time by Issac Hayden in the middle of the park.
Sadio Mane – 6
The speedster had a fairly frustrating night by his standards as he wasted a golden chance to score as well.
Daniel Sturridge – 5
The Englishman’s display was more proof that Liverpool are in serious need of an able backup for Roberto Firmino.
