Connor Zilisch broke his collarbone during what should have been a perfect celebration after winning the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen International on August 9, 2025. The 19-year-old’s sixth win of the season turned into a hospital visit within minutes.
Connor Zilisch’s Unfortunate Victory Lane Fall
Zilisch climbed out of his No. 88 Chevrolet after securing the win and stood on the roof and door to celebrate with the crowd. As he positioned himself with one foot on the driver window sill and another on the roof, he slipped and fell awkwardly to the ground. His foot got tangled in the window netting during the fall, preventing him from controlling his descent. The impact broke his collarbone instantly.
Medical personnel responded quickly and transported Zilisch to a local hospital. CT scans showed no head injury, which was a major relief given how hard he hit the ground. He posted on social media about two hours later confirming the broken collarbone and thanking everyone for their concern. Zilisch was released from the hospital the same night.
The Injury led to Connor Zilisch Missing the Cup Series Debut
The injury forced Zilisch to miss Sunday’s Cup Series race where he was scheduled to pilot a car for Trackhouse Racing. This marked his second missed race of the 2025 season after a back injury from a crash at Talladega Superspeedway earlier in the year kept him out of action.
Zilisch underwent collarbone surgery and returned to competition at the next Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway on August 22. Despite the setback, the points leader remained focused on his championship chase. NASCAR officials said they would not impose any limits or restrictions on victory celebrations following the incident.
