Former UFC champion Conor McGregor made a stunning return to the Octagon by beating Donald Cerrone and created another record too.
The Irishman hadn’t fought since the loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov, and this was supposed to be a real test for him.
Cerrone is one of the most respected fighters in the Welterweight division, but Conor made light work of the Cowboy.
The Irishman missed a punch early on but repeatedly used his shoulder to hit Cerrone on the nose.
That busted up the nose of the Cowboy and he was bleeding from it. It seemed that Cerrone was reeling from that hit and McGregor took full advantage.
The Irishman hit him in the jaw with his left foot and once Cerrone was down, there was only going to be one winner.
The match was called off after 40 seconds as McGregor first celebrated and then went to console his challenger.
Joe Rogan came on to take the interview and McGregor highlighted that he had created a record in the UFC:
“I’m the first fighter in UFC history to secure a knockout victory at featherweight, lightweight and welterweight. I’m very, very happy. I’m very proud.”
The Irishman became the first in UFC to win via knockout in three divisions and it will be interesting to see what he does next.
A rematch between Khabib and McGregor would be great for ratings and ticket sales, however, it would also give the Irishman to exact revenge on the Russian.

Khabib is unbeaten at the moment and faces Tony Ferguson at UFC 249. McGregor could challenge for the UFC Lightweight title then, and that could be the fight of the year.
