Controversy surrounding Alexander Zverev and ex-girlfriend Olga Sharypova?
Former junior tennis player Olga Sharypova earlier this year made a stunning accusation against her ex-boyfriend and tennis superstar Alexander Zverev. Sharypova claimed in an interview back in August that Zverev was emotionally and physically abusive to her during the time the couple were dating each other.
However, the 24-year-old denied all the accusations against him made by Sharypova and stated after that interview that his lawyers had initiated legal action against her and the journalist who interviewed her.
How this controversy actually started
Back in 2020 – Russia’s Sharypova, revealed via an Instagram post that she was a victim of domestic violence. According to the Russian, Zverev tried to “choke her with a pillow” in New York in August 2019.
Sharypova, who never made it to professional tennis or became as successful as Zverev in the sport, was dating the tennis star for several years. That Instagram never mentioned the name of the person to who she was referring to but it was very clear soon after that it was about former World No.3.
Soon afterwards Germany’s best tennis player rejected all the allegations levelled against him. But what raised eyebrows was on that very day, the 24-year-old confirmed that he and his former partner Brenda Patea were expecting a child together.
The tennis star on his Insta account wrote: “They make me sad. We have known each other since we were children and shared many experiences together. I very much regret that she makes such statements. Because the accusations are simply not true.”
The 24-year-old also denied all allegations later that year in a press conference.
Then on November 5, 2020 – journalist, Ben Rothenberg interviewed Sharypova for Racquet magazine. She then levelled more serious allegations against the German. “It was really hard. He was pretty toxic, telling me terrible things, saying ‘You’re nobody,’ saying, ‘You didn’t earn anything in this life. I’m a successful person, I earn money—but you’re nobody.’”
What happened earlier this year?
The journalist took a second interview of Sharypova in which she opens up more on the violence and allegations she has made against the tennis star. She mentioned the specific dates as October 9 and 10 in Shanghai, where she was allegedly assaulted while getting out of the shower “more violently than [Zverev] had done before.”
She went on to tell many other details and talked about how other women should also come out and speak about it – if something has happened with them. She also had a message for the tennis player in that interview:
“I want to ask him: Why can’t you say the truth? It’s not about me, it’s about your life. You should be honest with yourself.”
As soon as the interview was done – World No.3 came out and said that his lawyers will take the things in their hands now. Here is what he tweeted:
ATP announces an investigation into the allegations
The ATP earlier in October announced that they have opened an internal investigation into allegations of abuse surrounding Zverev during the Shanghai Masters in 2019.
In a statement, the ATP said:
“The allegations raised against Alexander Zverev are serious and we have a responsibility to address them. We hope our investigation will allow us to establish the facts and determine appropriate follow-up action.”
“We understand Zverev welcomes our investigation and acknowledges that he has denied all allegations. We will also be monitoring any further legal developments following the preliminary injunction obtained by Zverev in the German Courts.”
Zverev then responded via social media, welcoming the investigation and once again denied all the allegations which are against him.

Whatever happened between the former couple is really sad and it will be really tough for anyone to know what really happens between those two in private. But if Zverev is really guilty then it’s very sad for any fan to hear about his true personality. But we are no one to judge anyone without any proof or so.
