Top seed Mayar Sherif takes on the No. 8 seed Emma Navarro in the quarterfinals of the Copa LP Chile on Friday.
Mayar Sherif
The 26-year-old has continued the momentum she gained during her victorious Emilia-Romagna Open campaign. Sherif has won both of her matches so far in the Copa LP Chile in contrasting styles.
In the round of 32, the Egyptian athlete completely outclassed Fernanda Astete, bageling the Chilean in consecutive sets. Sherif faced the talented 15-year-old Brenda Fruhvirtova in the round of 16. The teenage sensation has been making the right noises in the ITF circuit this season. However, not many would have expected her to give the experienced Sherif a tough time. After winning the first set convincingly, Sherif witnessed firsthand, the talent that Fruhvirtova possesses. The youngster won the second set and gave a good fight in the third set but Sherif managed to scrape through and came out victorious 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
Emma Navarro
The American player has been impressive on the ITF circuit this year. She has also shown her flair in the Copa LP Chile so far. Navarro has won both of her matches in straight sets.
The 21-year-old began her campaign with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Germany’s Lena Papadakis. In the round of 16, Navarro defeated former junior world No. 1 Clara Burel in another lopsided contest 6-3, 6-3. The world No. 143 will have her task cut out against the experienced Mayar Sherif.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 1-0 in favor of Mayar Sherif. She defeated Navarro in straight sets in an ITF event in the USA back in 2021.
Prediction: Mayar Sherif to win in straight sets.
