The top seed Mayar Sherif begins her Copa LP Chile campaign against the young Chilean Fernanda Astete in the round of 32 on Tuesday.

The Egyptian player has had a few noteworthy moments this season. She broke into the top 50 for the first time on 16 May 2022. Sherif became the first Egyptian woman to win a match in the main draw of the French Open. The biggest moment in her career came at the Emilia-Romagna Open when she defeated Maria Sakkari in the finals to win her first WTA Tour title. Sherif became the first Egyptian woman to win a WTA Tour title.
Other than this win, the 26-year-old has managed to bag a couple of WTA 125 titles as well. She is certainly the favorite coming into the tournament.
Fernanda Astete
The 25-year-old will have the support of the fans but she will need much more than that to topple the in-form Sherif. She has primarily competed on the ITF circuit this year and has not had great success, especially in singles competitions.
Astete reached a couple of semifinals in back-to-back ITF events in Brazil. Other than that, there isn’t much to write home about. She is coming into the tournament on the back of a run to the quarterfinals in the W15 Eldorado.

The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have not faced each other as yet.
Prediction: Mayar Sherif to win in straight sets.
