6th seed Federico Coria locks horns with Brazilian southpaw Thiago Monteiro in the round of 32 of the 2023 Cordoba Open on Tuesday.

The Argentine veteran did not have an ideal start to the season. In the United Cup, he lost to Adrian Mannarino and Borna Gojo. At the ASB Classic, Coria defeated Luca Van Assche and Gregoire Barrere in the qualifiers to progress to the main draw. However, his campaign ended in the round of 32 with a loss against Marcos Giron. At the Australian Open, Coria won two out of the first three sets in his first-round clash against Marton Fucsovics. However, the Hungarian athlete showed great determination and ousted Coria.

The 30-year-old had a great time at the Challenger event in Concepcion, Chile. Coria won the tournament and only lost one set during his run to the title.

The 28-year-old had a couple of tough encounters at the United Cup. He lost to Casper Ruud and Matteo Berrettini. In the ASB Classic, Monteiro made it to the main draw by defeating Daniel Altmaier and Ajeet Rai in the qualifiers. He eventually lost to Jiri Lehecka in the first round.

Like Coria, Monteiro’s Australian Open campaign ended in the first round. He lost to Constant Lestienne in straight sets. This will be the first tournament that Monteiro will be playing since his exit in the first round of the doubles tournament in the Australian Open.
