The Argentine youngster did not come into the tournament with a good run of form. He was searching for his first win of the season after losing his first matches in the Maharashtra Open, the ASB Classic, and the Australian Open.

Baez has come back with a bang at the Cordoba Open. After receiving a first-round bye, Baez blew away Luciano Darderi in straight sets in the round of 16. The match ended 6-3, 6-4 in favor of Baez. The 22-year-old faced Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera in the quarterfinals. Baez dominated the first and third sets to win the encounter 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. Baez had an impressive win percentage of 80 on the first serve.

Hugo Dellien

The 29-year-old has had a great run from the qualifiers and is now in the semifinals of the Cordoba Open. Dellien defeated Thiago Seyboth Wild and Nicolas Kicker in the first two rounds of qualifying. In the round of 32, Dellien faced 5th seed Pedro Cachin. Dellien eased past the Argentine star in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. He carried on from where he left to outplay Guido Pella in the round of 16.

In the quarterfinals, Dellien came back miraculously from a set down to defeat Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-0. Another win will take Dellien to his first tour-level final.
