Cory attended a high school named Pickering High School in Ajax, Ontario. He used to play basketball in high school too. Cory and his brother Devoe also led the school’s basketball team to Ontario provincial championships in 2007 and 2008.

At just 16, Cory transferred to Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada. He led Findley Prep to the ESPN RISE National High School Invitational championship game in 2009.

Joseph committed to playing for the University of Texas. He started playing for the college basketball team and was named the Big 12 All-Freshman team at the end of the 2010 season.

Following the end of the season, Joseph declared for the NBA draft. On June 23, 2011, Joseph was drafted 29th overall in the 2011 NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs. It was also the second time in NBA history that two Canadians were selected in the first round of the same draft.

Joseph signed a contract of four seasons with the purs and committed all four seasons. In early 2011, Cory filled in for Tony Parker as the Spurs’ starting point guard. This replacement proved to be a turning point for Cory in the NBA as he helped the team to reach the 2013 NBA Finals.

The 2014-15 season proved to be the best season for him. He helped the Spurs defeat Miami in Game 5 of the 2014 NBA Championship. This led them to earn the NBA Championship Ring. This made him a fan favourite in San Antonio. At the end of the season, his 4-year contract with the Spurs ended, and Joseph became a free agent.

Cory signed a four-year, $30 million contract with the team from his home, Toronto Raptors, on July 9, 2015. Cory averaged a career-high 23 minutes per game. He played as the back point guard from the Raptors.

On April 16, 2016, Cory scored a playoff career-high 18 points in a Game 1 loss to seventh-seeded Indian Pacers in the first round. Joseph also scored a career-high 33 points in a win over the Brooklyn Nets on January 17, 2017.

However, even after a good performance, he was traded to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for the draft right of Emir Preldzic. In his debut for the Pacers, Cory scored 11 points in a 140-131 win over the Brooklyn Nets. 

On February 9, 2019, Joseph had 10 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds in a 105–90 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. On July 6, 2019, Joseph signed with the Sacramento Kings. 

On January 30, 2020, Joseph scored a season-high 16 points, while also getting two rebounds, seven assists, one steal and one block in a 124–103 victory against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Joseph was traded to the Detroit Pistons, along with two future second-round draft picks, in exchange for Delon Wright on March 26, 2021. However, he was waived by the Pistons soon but was re-signed by the club again on August 11, 2021.
