Henry Cejudo retired from the UFC after defeating Dominick Cruz at UFC 249
Bantamweight star Cory Sandhagen believes Henry Cejudo might not be retired for long.
Triple C shocked the world when he retired from the Octagon after defeating Dominick Cruz. While many have claimed this is a tactic to gain a better deal from the UFC, Cejudo has been appearing on AEW, a wrestling promotion.
The former Bantamweight and Flyweight champion has also spoken of facing a boxer recently, but Sandhagen believes Cejudo could be made to return for a big fight.
Sandhagen is in action at UFC 250 and was speaking to Ariel Helwani recently. The American was pleased that Cejudo was out of action but had a lot of respect for the work he did in the Octagon:
“I think he is [retired] for now. I think that Henry really likes attention and I think if he gets that attention and is making good money outside of the UFC he’ll stay retired.
“If he’s not, I think he will be back.”
Helwani then asked Sandhagen about Cejudo’s performance against Cruz. While Sandhagen gave Cejudo props for doing well, he certainly isn’t impressed by Triple C’s antics outside the Octagon:
“Henry’s good, man. Henry annoys me a lot, just because his decision to fight Aldo and Cruz over the contenders and his act is like annoying.
“But the guy is a really good fight. He knows how to compete and I have a lot of respect for that.”
Sandhagen added that he was impressed with how Cejudo fought against Cruz too, but he now has a chance to fight for the vacant title.
The American faces Aljamain Sterling at UFC 250, and there has been talk of this being a No.1 contender’s clash.
Sterling and Sandhagen both have sounded confident ahead of the fight, and this could be one of the best clashes of the year.
Cejudo leaving the UFC does open up a lot of permutations and combinations of who the champion could be.
