Here is everything you need to know about the new Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio reboot announced by SEGA.

According to new Bloomberg sources, Sega is working on big-budget reboots of some of its most iconic games, including two famous titles from the original Dreamcast. According to the reports, the company is turning a number of its profitable titles into “super games,” an inclusive word for a variety of future initiatives.

Super Game Initiative is the company’s strategy for developing “new and innovative titles” with a focus on international reach, online interactive content, community building, and IP utilization. Sega announced in May 2021 that it intends to use its backlog of inactive IP for remakes, remasters, and reboots, listing games like Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio as potential contenders.

Space Channel 5, Rez, Panzer Dragoon, Nights, Shinobi, Virtua Fighter, and Altered Beast are among the other possible games on the list of dormant franchises. According to Bloomberg, Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio are next; a new Crazy Taxi is currently in production, with plans to release it within the next two to three years.

Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio Reboot details

Sega is modeling the return of Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio after Fortnite. It’s unclear what features of Epic’s popular battle royale videogame will be adapted, but it’s possible that the reboots will be free-to-play and cross-platform, with microtransactions for in-game items.

Sega will likely hope to match Fortnite’s phenomenal success. It remains to be seen whether they are successful, but bringing back two classic Dreamcast series to kickstart its new endeavor appears to be a good place to start.

Jet Set Radio was one of the Sega Dreamcast’s most critically regarded titles. With its graphics, soundtrack, and action, it has been re-released on more current systems several times, most recently in 2012 as a remaster for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

Crazy Taxi, on the other hand, began as an arcade game before making its way to the home console. As the name implies, players must drive a taxi cab at breakneck speeds in order to complete passenger fares in a limited amount of time.
