Crystal Palace opinion: Should the Eagles go all out for Juan Munoz?

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Crystal Palace have sent scouts to watch Alcorcon striker Juan Munoz.

The Spaniard, 23, joined second-tier Alcorcon on a free transfer last summer and he’s been an inspired signing, scoring 14 goals in 34 games thus far. But Juan Munoz will enter the final year of his contract in the summer and will be available for a bargain £2million fee, adds the report.

Crystal Palace clearly need a centre-forward this summer, given that goals have been hard to come by during another difficult Premier League campaign.

They have struggled without a prolific centre-forward this season and have relied heavily on Wilfried Zaha up front. Christian Benteke has scored just once in this campaign, Alexander Sorloth has failed to make the grade, while Michy Batshuayi is unlikely to stay when his loan spell from Chelsea comes to an end.

The Eagles’ need for a striker has greatly increased in recent weeks, with Zaha being linked with a big-money move away from the club. The Daily Mail claim Arsenal are interested in signing the Ivorian in the summer and losing him will be a massive blow for Roy Hodgson’s side.

Thus, the acquisition of a new forward in the summer has to be a priority for Roy Hodgson and Juan Munoz will be an ideal signing for Palace. Munoz has shown real maturity while leading the line for Alcorcon this season in the Spanish second division.

The 23-year-old has the ability to take defenders on with his dribbling skills and has the strength to hold them off to make space for himself and his teammates. The Spaniard’s awareness and composure in front of goal has been truly fantastic this campaign.

His work ethic is really good, which will be a much-needed asset in the Premier League next season. Munoz has shown his killer instincts inside the box and possesses the qualities to thrive at Selhurst Park.

Verdict

Munoz would be a brilliant signing for Palace and with him still only 23, he can be a real asset for the Eagles for years to come. Hodgson could do with his pace, power and finishing ability and he should do everything in his powers to bring the Spanish forward to Selhurst Park.
