Luka Doncic appeared to hobble off the court after picking up a calf injury in the Mavs’ regular season finale clash against the Spurs. Dallas will now be sweating on their star players’ injury.
Dallas Mavericks star man Luka Doncic suffered a calf strain during the team’s final 2021-22 NBA regular season game against the San Antonio Spur on Sunday. The 23-year-old appeared to hurt himself after jumping for a pass despite no contact from any opposition players in the third quarter of the game and hobbled off the court as well.
Doncic was receiving treatment and was unable to speak to the media after the game. However, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd spoke to reporters after the win over the Spurs and remained hopeful of Doncic’s injury not being too serious. “We’ll know more tomorrow, and we’ll go from there. Hopefully, it’s not too serious.” According to reports from ESPN, Doncic’s injury isn’t as serious as it seems.
This season, Doncic has been in fine form again for the Dallas Mavericks, helping the team clinch 4th place in the Western Conference. The two-time All-Star averaged 28.5 points, 9.1 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game this regular season. The Mavs will face the Utah Jazz in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
However, Mavs will still be hoping that Doncic is able to recover from his injury in time for the playoffs. Here’s a look at how Doncic suffered his injury on Sunday:
NBA fans took to social media to react to Doncic’s injury. On Twitter, one wrote, ‘Exactly what Dallas didn’t need. Their best player hobbling off the court before the playoffs’ while another added, ‘If Doncic is out with the injury, I don’t think the Mavs stand a chance of winning the NBA Championship.’ A third commented, ‘Maybe the Jazz are now favourites against the Mavs if Doncic is out injured’.
