Two talented American youngsters, Frances Tiafoe and J.J. Wolf will square off in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Dallas Open on Friday.
The 25-year-old Frances Tiafoe made his debut in the Dallas Open this year. The second-seeded player received a bye into the round of 16 where he faced fellow American Mackenzie McDonald.
Tiafoe, who is currently ranked 14th in the ATP rankings, made light work of McDonald as he won the match in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 in just 58 minutes. The 2022 US Open semifinalist had a win percentage of 85 on the first serve and also converted 4 out of 6 break points.
The Cincinnati-born athlete showed a lot of promise in the Australian Open. He reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.
Wolf began his Dallas Open campaign in the round of 32 against compatriot Brandon Holt. The 6th seed produced a dominating performance and defeated Holt in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 with the help of 9 aces and a win percentage of 93 on the first serve. He followed it up with another solid effort in the following round to defeat Radu Albot 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). In this tie, Wold smashed 10 aces and had a win percentage of 81 on the first serve.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 1-0 in favor of Frances Tiafoe. He defeated J.J. Wolf in three sets in a qualifying match of the 2021 Canadian Open.
