5th seed John Isner faces German youngster Daniel Altmaier in the round of 16 of the 2023 Dallas Open on Thursday.
The experienced American player won his first match in 2023 in the round of 32 of the Dallas Open. He got the better of Chun-Hsin Tseng in a highly competitive encounter that ended in straight sets 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-1). The big-serving Isner was high on aces once again as he fired in 22 untouchable serves. Isner also had a win percentage of 81 on the first serve.
Isner began the season with a loss against Gregoire Barrere in the first round of the ASB Classic. At the Australian Open, the 37-year-old lost to fellow veteran Adrian Mannarino after winning the first set. Isner had to fight hard during his first win. The hard-fought win might just have been what Isner needed to get him going in the season.
Like Isner, Daniel Altmaier also won his first match of the season in the Dallas Open. Prior to the Dallas Open, Altmaier played in the ASB Classic and the Australian Open. In the first round of qualifying, Altmaier crashed out following a loss to Thiago Monteiro. The Australian Open followed where Altmaier lost to 16th seed Frances Tiafoe in four sets in the first round.
The 24-year-old picked up a comfortable victory in the round of 32 of the Dallas Open. He defeated America’s Zachary Svajda in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.
John Isner and Daniel Altmaier have never crossed paths as yet. Therefore, the head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0.
Prediction: John Isner to win in three sets.
