UFC: Mortal Kombat could be on from Dana ‘Shang Tsung’ White for the next few months
Dana White does not know how to take ‘no’ for an answer. He has time and again proved to be the best at finding solutions from tough problems, and did the same with regards to UFC 249.
The UFC president had to think quickly on his feet as Khabib Nurmagomedov was stuck in Russia. The UFC Lightweight champion couldn’t face Tony Ferguson at UFC 249, but White replaced him with Justin Gaethje at short notice.
The president was speaking to Brett Okamoto and promised to keep putting out UFC cards from 18 April.
However, he also shared some rather eye-popping details of where the fights could be and it almost felt like he was setting up a Mortal Kombat game.
White was speaking of the location for UFC 249 and claimed he had it “locked” down for two months.
He suggested that all US fights would take place from this location and had even more ominous words for the international fights:
“I have also secured an island. The infrastructure is being built right now. We are going to do all our international fights on this island.”
Okamoto was also taken aback with this news, but it just goes to show how much he is trying to get the UFC back on.
Shang Tsung was the overlord who hosted the Mortal Kombat tournament, a video game and movie for those not in the know, and he brought some of the best fighters in the world as the good guys tried to save the world.
White also tapped into the fact that Vince McMahon of WWE was hosting events from one location, and wanted to bring sports back to the people at large.
While it makes sense to host UFC events from an island, there are safety concerns. White went onto say that they are taking all sorts of precautions to keep all personnel safe.
The UFC president has always gotten his way. If he can get fight cards going again, it will bring some sort of distraction to sports fans.
White added that money was never an issue for him and restarting the UFC is not for money-related purposes too.
The president isn’t someone who is as horrible a person as Tsung. However, if he gets this cracked, it would be a flawless victory for White and the UFC.
