According to Marca (h/t Daily Mail), Dani Carvajal is all set to sign a new contract with Real Madrid. The report states that the contract runs until 2024 and that there was complete harmony between player and club. Another Real Madrid player, Sergio Ramos is also in talks with the club regarding a new contract.
The 28-year-old Spanish right-back who plays for La Liga side Real Madrid. A product of Real Madrid’s famed academy, La Fabricia, Carvajal joined them at the age of 10 in 2002. He spent the next few years in the youth side and was promoted to the U-18s in 2008.
Successive promotions followed in the following years with a promotion to the Castilla side in 2010. Despite spending two years and playing 68 games for RM Castilla, he failed to get a call-up to the senior side and was subsequently sold to Bayer Leverkusen.
However, his form and performances in Germany during that season made Real Madrid backtrack and re-sign him in 2013. Since then, he has established himself as one of the best right-backs in the world and enjoyed tremendous success at Madrid.
His trophy haul includes 4 Champions League titles, 2 La Ligas and a bunch of other trophies such as the Club World Cup and the Super Cup. During this time, he has accumulated 282 appearances for the club, scoring six goals and assisting 47 more (source – Transfermarkt).
While he has been a regular for Los Blancos, he hasn’t had the same level of success for the national team. So far, he has just made 25 appearances for them.
It’s been a long journey for the right-back from the academy to Leverkusen and back at Real. At a time when he couldn’t get even one game for the side, he took a brave decision to leave for Germany. He worked hard and got the attention of Real, who immediately signed him back.
The attack-minded full-back has been a vital part of the Blancos’ success in recent years and was almost an indispensable member of the team. He did have some niggling injury problems over those years but has performed admirably for the side whenever he has played.
While there have been new recruits such as Alvaro Odriozola to eventually take over from him, it feels like Carvajal still has a lot more to offer at 28. With his contract expiring in 2022, the club are right in offering him fresh terms which will extend his stay until 2024.
