Altmaier entered the ATP main draw for the first time as a qualifier during the 2017 Geneva Open. He secured his place in the main draw by defeating Alexander Ward and Petr Michnev in the qualifying rounds. Unfortunately, he faced a defeat in the first round against Sam Querrey.
