To collect an oar that had dropped from his family’s boat, he dove into the lake, but as soon as he was submerged, he started to struggle. Rescue personnel located his body following an extended search.
Daniel Cullison’s family started a GoFundMe campaign after the tragedy to assist with the expenses of his funeral service. The Danvilles San Roman newspaper described the 26-year-old as a San Jose resident. Any suspicion of foul play in his death has been ruled out by the Alameda County Coroner’s Office.

According to KTVU, Daniel Cullison initially drowned at 4 o’clock. When he went to get the oar from his fishing boat, the incident happened near a cove outside the restricted lake area. Witnesses reported that as soon as he entered the water, he appeared to struggle.
Daniel Cullison’s family called the East Bay Regional Park District Marine Patrol when they lost sight of him. While district lifeguards combed the water for Cullison, the officers marked the area. They found the body inside the cove after about six hours. At around 9:20 pm, the boy was discovered.
Cullison’s relatives posted comments about the unfortunate death on the GoFundMe page when investigators confirmed that the remains were those of the deceased. The victim’s family representative who created the page, Casandra Castrejon, acknowledged the loss. Written by Castrejon
