Danielle Rose Collins a.k.a Danielle Collins started playing tennis at age 3. She was introduced to tennis by her father. Notably, while Danielle was young, she was coached by her father.
One of Danielle’s important career highlights is that she is a former college tennis player. She used to play tennis at the University of Virginia (transferred from the University of Florida after her freshman year). While playing for Virginia, Collins won the collegiate national title in 2014 and 2016 and the Honda Sports Award as the nation’s best female tennis player in 2016.
Notably, Collins played her first events on the ITF Women’s Circuit in 2009. Also, she won her first ITF singles title in 2011.
Collins made her WTA Tour main-draw debut as a wildcard at the 2014 US Open. However, she didn’t achieve any desirable results. Then in mid-2016, Collins turned fully professional. During her time on the ITF Circuit, she won four singles titles.
The year 2018 was a breakthrough year for Collins. Her amazing performance quickly caught the eyes of the tennis world. Also, Collins rose to then career-high ranking of No. 23 on 28 January 2019, following the Australian Open tournament.
During the COVID-19 marred 2020 season, Collins couldn’t achieve much. Nevertheless, in 2020, Collins reached her second career Grand Slam quarterfinal at the French Open.
The 2021 season was a good year for Collins’s career. She won her first WTA title at the Palermo International, defeating Elena-Gabriela Ruse in straight sets in the final. Subsequently, Collins won her second WTA title at the Silicon Valley Classic, defeating Daria Kasatkina in three sets. Notably, the Silicon Valley Classic win marked her first WTA 500 title. The WTA 500 title also helped Collins to reenter the top 30 rankings at world No. 28, on August 9, 2021.
In 2022, Collins appeared for the first time in a Grand Slam final. Collins played exceptionally well at 2022 Australian Open and as a result, reached the Australian Open finals. This was Collins’s first Grand Slam final appearance. However, in the final, Collins lost in straight sets against Ashleigh Barty.
But on the brighter side, as a result of reaching the final, Collins made her top 10 rankings debut and became the American No. 1 female player.
