School
Johnson attended Trinity High School in Louisville, Kentucky, where he grew up. Johnson was named third team All-State as a sophomore after averaging 10.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.
As a junior, he was named first team All-State after averaging 13.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game. ESPN ranked Johnson as a four-star recruit and the best college prospect in Kentucky, and he committed to play for Louisville early in his senior year.
College
Johnson missed the first few weeks of his freshman season because of an offseason shoulder injury. During his freshman season, Johnson mostly served as a key reserve, with only a few starts. On January 18, 2020, he had a season-high 19 points, seven assists, four rebounds, and three steals in Louisville’s upset win over Duke.
He averaged 12.6 points, 3.2 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game as a sophomore. Following the season, he declared for the NBA draft in 2021. Johnson was a projected lottery pick in the 2021 NBA Draft in the middle of the year.
Professional Career
The Toronto Raptors selected Johnson with the 47th pick in the second round of the 2021 NBA draught. He signed a two-way contract with Toronto on August 8, 2021, splitting time with their G League affiliate, Raptors 905.
