Learn bout the latest updates on the anticipated Death Stranding 2 along with the storyline in the trailer explained and the release dates mentioned below:
The follow-up to Hideo Kojima’s PlayStation-only 2019 title, Death Stranding 2, debuted at The Game Awards 2022 and garnered additional attention at Sony’s 2024 State of Play. Death Stranding is easily one of the best world games to be released in the past decade. We can’t expect anything less from the upcoming game as the storyline moves forward into much more exciting stages saving the world.
Despite being in its early stages of development, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach has a lot of information in the trailer that we can figure out. Look at everything we currently know about the upcoming video game in case you enjoyed the first one and are eager for the sequel to be released. Also a quick summary of the most recent developments on this much-anticipated project.
A precise release date for Death Stranding 2 has not yet been revealed. It is confirmed, nevertheless, that the game is anticipated to release in 2025. Considering Hideo Kojima’s illustrious past, enthusiasts are recommended to monitor this space for updates regarding the release schedule.
An operating room is shown when the trailer opens. Someone is being operated on by Fragile and a new character, who we subsequently learn is the captain of the DHV Magellan. Red and white highlight the key elements in this picture. One of the logos Kojima used to tease Death Stranding 2 back in 2022 is shown in red. This logo also showed up on the DHV Magellan’s livery in the first trailer. From the captain’s jacket, we can now see that it is the actual Magellan logo. The two bionic hands that Fragile wears throughout the trailer are visible in white.
Following the introduction, we get a glimpse of the inside of the DHV Magellan. Fragile, dressed in an outfit resembling that of a ship commander, welcomes Sam aboard and gives him a tour of the vessel. Similar to Sam’s appearance on the beach in DS1 or in the seam following his death during gameplay, their skin is blue. However, this shouldn’t come as a surprise because BB’s shot immediately prior to this section hinted at this.
Next, Sam is introduced to the ship’s guns. There is a lot to discuss here, so let’s look at what’s new in Sam’s arsenal and follow the numbers highlighted.
Following our tour of the armoury, Sam and Fragile talk to us about Drawbridge’s history and the DHV Magellan. Fragile clarifies that they are a civilian organization funded behind the scenes by a wealthy patron rather than being an official UCA employee. The only issue is that, despite her assertion that “They value their privacy,” Fragile has never met this customer. Sam is dubious and disappointed that Fragile would accept such a falsehood.
Next, the most bizarre aspect of the trailer is revealed: Sam will travel with a living puppet, much like Kratos does with Mimir in the newest God of War video games. His description by Fragile as someone with skills and knowledge that might be useful during Sam’s missions adds to the strangeness of his character. There are many theories as to who or what he is, but my theory is that he was once a human who, most likely after death, had his soul trapped in a puppet’s body. Again, bear in mind that the trailer contains similar imagery at other points, and I will return to this.
Furthermore, she explains the situation the world is in right now and Sam’s role. She believes he can help save the work along with the squad she created called ‘Drawbridge’. She sets Sam on a mission to increase the network coverage of UCA so that humanity can be saved.
At last, the trailer starts showing us the real-time gameplay of Death Stranding 2. Sam is told by Fragile to connect the “Mexico-side plate gate terminal” meaning Sam’s first mission in Death Stranding 2 probably starts right at the southern border of the US with Mexico. Now, let’s focus on the parts highlighted in red and white.
Following the view of the flood, Sam is shown navigating a strange environment with floating rocks and climbing tar. It makes me think of the scene that greets players in DS1 when they arrive at Mountain Knot City.
To stop the spread of a tar belt that was forming in the middle of the city, players in that mission had to deliver an anti-matter bomb to the nearby distro centre. Could the reemergence of Death Stranding, as Fragile explains to Sam in this scene, be the reason why there are tar belts everywhere in the world?
In the Cameo of the trailer, the most interesting events take place. It is revealed that the person causing all kinds of trouble with bots all over the world is none other than Sams’s brother.
A scene where Sam is held captive by his brother turns out to be a brawl between the brothers. A stunning action sequence is followed by the fight in the trailer. After this the scenes get emotional as Sam is shown holding a baby boy while the narrator calls Sam a man ‘kept in the dark about everything’ in Death Stranding 2.
In this scene, Elle Fanning is seen ducking behind a wall to listen in on a discussion that the Drawbridge team is having in Death Stranding 2. Here, there are two intriguing elements: the red-circled legs of an unidentified character (perhaps Shioli Kutsuna) and Elle’s arm bandage, which I assume covers the suckers we first noticed when we started this analysis.
At the very end of State of Play, Kojima surprised everyone by revealing yet another game that would be released in association with both Sony/Columbia Pictures and PS Studios. There isn’t much information available about this project, which won’t begin production until after Death Stranding 2 ships in 2025, but what little is known allows us to make some educated guesses.
Step out on an inspiring mission of human connection beyond the UCA with DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH. Sam embarks on a new adventure to prevent the extinction of humanity with friends at his side. Accompany them as they navigate a realm plagued by unearthly adversaries, hindrances, and a persistent query: ought we to have established a connection? Legendary game developer Hideo Kojima once again transforms the world little by little. For the ones who are yet to play the first part of The Death Stranded here’s a quick guide with tips and tricks to follow.
