Predicted Rangers XI to face Hearts in the Scottish League Cup

Rangers completely demolished Ross County 4-0 in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night to stretch their unbeaten run to five games in all competitions, thanks to braces from Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Jack.

Steven Gerrard’s side are only behind Celtic on goal difference in the league and they will once again be the favourites when they lock horns with Hearts in the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup at Hampden Park on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Hearts will be keen to get back to winning ways after suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of St. Johnston in the Scottish Premiership.

Team News

Gerrard will be keeping his fingers crossed on the availability of first-choice shot-stopper Allan McGregor, who is nursing a knock that he picked up against Motherwell.

Brandon Barker (shoulder) and Jordan Jones (short of match fitness) were not in the matchday squad for the clash against Ross County and their selection will be subject to a late fitness test. Jon Flanagan is also unlikely to feature due to a hernia problem.

Predicted XI

Formation: 4-3-3

Wes Foderingham (GK)

He made some good saves against Ross County in the last game and could find himself between the sticks once again on Sunday if McGregor fails to make it to the eleven.

James Tavernier (RB)

Rangers skipper hasn’t really been in great touch in recent weeks but he put up a decent display against Ross County and will be expected to gradually work his way back to his best.

Connor Goldson (CB)

He has looked a tad shaky in the last few games but the former Brighton man been an ever-present at the back and is likely to start in the League Cup semi-final on Sunday.

Nikola Katic (CB)

The Croatian centre-back hasn’t really been a regular fixture at the back for the Gers this term but the game on Sunday could be a good opportunity for him to prove his worth.

The veteran didn’t play a part against Ross County but he should be fresh and ready to start against Hearts on Sunday.

Ryan Jack (RCM)

The Scottish international should be high on confidence after a stunning brace on Wednesday and the fans will be looking forward to another inspirational display from him in the semi-final.

Joe Aribo (LCM)

The Nigerian international capped off a wonderful display in the demolition of Ross County with a couple of assists and he is likely to be amongst the starters on Sunday.

Sheyi Ojo (RW)

The Liverpool loanee showed strong signs of promise in the previous outing and he should start against Hearts if Jordan Jones and Brandon Barker aren’t fit enough to make it to the eleven.

The summer recruit has found himself in and out of the team at Ibrox but he is expected to get a start in the League Cup semi-final in place of Arfield, who needs a bit of rest.

Jermain Defoe (ST)

Morelos has been in blistering form but the veteran, too, has bagged quite a lot of goals this season and he could get a start on Sunday if Gerrard opts to rotate his squad.
