Tottenham vs West Ham Predictions: Tottenham Match report
Tottenham’s flawless start in their new home came to an abrupt end, as West Ham punished the north Londoners by inflicting a 1-0 defeat. Michael Antonio fired home emphatically after 67 minutes to help the visitors take a surprise three points at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
This was the fifth match in all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino’s men at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and they had won the previous four without conceding a goal, but that run was ended in Saturday’s London derby.
Despite Tottenham come into the clash as favourites, West Ham began well, with Declan Rice fizzing over from range, before Felipe Anderson wasted a glorious opening, sidefooting straight at Hugo Lloris from a tight angle.
Tottenham soon gained control, however, as Son Heung-min worked Lukasz Fabianski into a near-post save after being sent clean through by Dele Alli, before Lucas Moura flashed a shot just wide off the far post.
Son had a penalty shout turned down early in the second half, while Christian Eriksen hit a free-kick from a good area straight into the wall before Antonio gave the visitors the advantage. Marko Arnautovic lifted a lovely ball into the path of Antonio, who controlled very well on his chest before firing past Hugo Lloris.
Not content with just the one-goal lead, West Ham constantly hit Spurs on the counter, but found Lloris in inspired form in goal. The Frenchman held onto an Arnautovic curler before denied Antonio his second.
Tottenham came close to equalising with the last kick of the game when substitute Vincent Janssen saw a header cleared off the line by the combination of Balbuena and Lloris, but the Hammers hold on to secure the derby’s bragging rights.
The result sees Tottenham remain in third but they have missed an opportunity to all but secure their top-four place, while West Ham move to 46 points but stay in 11th.
