9th seed J.J. Wolf squares off against Ilya Ivashka in the round of 32 of the 2023 Delray Beach Open on Tuesday.
The American tennis pro has played some scintillating tennis this season. He began with a win against French veteran Adrian Mannarino in the first round of the ASB Classic. He went on to lose to Marcos Giron in the second round.
Wolf impressed in the Australian Open as he made it to the fourth round for the first time at a major. He defeated the likes of Jordan Thompson, Diego Schwartzman, and Michael Mmoh, before going down to compatriot Ben Shelton. In the Dallas Open, Wolf made it to the semifinals with wins against Brandon Holt, Radu Albot, and 2nd seed Frances Tiafoe. In the semifinals, Wolf lost to fellow American John Isner after giving a great fight.
The 28-year-old has just played in a couple of tournaments in 2022 so far. He is yet to win a match and will have his task cut out as he goes head-to-head against an in-form player.
Ivashka played in the Australian Open where he lost to 32nd seed Botic van de Zandschulp. The Russian tennis pro went on to compete in the Dallas Open. In the round of 32, he faced Jack Sock. The American veteran won the match 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-4.
This will be the first meeting between J.J. Wolf and Ilya Ivashka. The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0.
Prediction: J.J. Wolf to win in straight sets.
