After receiving a first-round bye, 4th seed Miomir Kecmanovic takes on Portuguese qualifier Nuno Borges in the round of 16 of the Delray Beach Open.
The Serbian youngster had a decent campaign in the Adelaide International 2. He defeated Kyle Edmund and Jason Kubler to reach the quarterfinals where Thanasi Kokkinakis got the better of him. In the Australian Open, Kecmanovic entered as the 26th seed. His campaign got over in the first round itself as he lost to Nicolas Jarry in straight sets.
After the Australian Open debacle, Kecmanovic competed in the Dallas Open. However, he lost to Emilio Gomez in the round of 16 after winning the first set.
The 25-year-old couldn’t get past the first round of the Australian Open. He lost to Italian tennis pro – Lorenzo Sonego in four sets.
In the Delray Beach Open, Borges made it through to the main draw by winning a couple of rounds of qualifying. He eased past Jonas Forejtek and Steve Johnson to reach the main draw. In the round of 32, Borges once again defeated Johnson. The match ended 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in favor of the Portuguese youngster. Borges converted 3 out of 6 break points and had a win percentage of 71 on the first serve. He committed 6 double faults but that didn’t come back to haunt him. However, the margin of error will be smaller against Kecmanovic.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have never faced each other as yet.
Prediction: Miomir Kecmanovic to win in straight sets.
