The 25-year-old came into the tournament after losing to eventual champion Wu Yibing in the Dallas Open semifinals in a thrilling contest.

After receiving a bye into the round of 16 of the Delray Beach Open, Fritz took on Ecuadorian No. 1 Emilio Gomez. Fritz was the outright favorite to win the match and he registered a comfortable win against Gomez. Fritz smashed 11 aces in the match and had a win percentage of 79 on the first serve. The match got over in 1 hour and 27 minutes.

The experienced campaigner also came into the tournament after losing to Wu Yibing. This loss came in the quarterfinals of the Dallas Open.

The southpaw opened his Delray Beach Open campaign against Daniel Altmaier in the round of 32. After losing the first set, the 34-year-old won the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to register a memorable come-from-behind win. In the round of 16, Mannarino defeated 9th seed J.J. Wolf in straight sets 7-5, 6-2. The veteran served quite well and had a win percentage of 81 on the first serve.
