The Japanese star has played some fine tennis this season. He made it to the fourth round of the Australian Open with wins against Mikael Ymer, Dalibor Svrcina, and Mackenzie McDonald. This was the first time he reached the fourth round in a Grand Slam event. He lost to Karen Khachanov in the fourth round.

The Japanese No. 1 began his campaign in the Delray Beach Open with a gritty win against Oscar Otte. The 27-year-old Nishioka defeated the German star in three sets 6-3, 0-6, 6-4. Nishioka converted 5 out of 7 break points in the encounter.

Mackenzie McDonald

The 27-year-old defeated Dan Evans in the round of 16 of the Adelaide International 2 before going to Mikael Ymer in the following round. In the Australian Open, McDonald defeated Brandon Nakashima to set up a clash with the legendary Rafael Nadal in the second round. McDonald registered the biggest win in his career when he defeated Nadal in straight sets. The American tennis pro eventually lost to Yoshihito Nishioka in the third round. In the Dallas Open, McDonald defeated Fernando Verdasco before facing defeat to 2nd seed Frances Tiafoe in the round of 16.

In the first round of the Delray Beach Open, McDonald made light work of Taro Daniel. The match ended 6-2, 6-2 in favor of McDonald. He converted 4 out of 5 break points and had a win percentage of 85 on the first serve.
