Demian Maia is one of the most experienced UFC fighters on the current roster
Brazilian MMA star Demian Maia might be 42 but he still is one of the best fighters on the roster.
The Welterweight star has been involved in the world of MMA for more than 20 years and made his debut in the sport back in 2001.
Maia started his MMA training way back when he was just four years old. The Brazilian learned Kung Fu, Karate and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu while he was a teenager. While he has black belts in multiple MMAs, Maia also holds a degree in journalism which he got in college.
Maia was a champion in wrestling too before he got into the world of MMA.
The Brazilian started his MMA career in Venezuela and won his first 11 fights of his career. Maia had only fought in six MMA bouts before joining the UFC back in 2008.
His career has seen stretches where he has been unbeatable while also there have been losing streaks too.
The Brazilian currently has an MMA record of 28 wins and 10 losses with his UFC record being 22 wins and 10 losses.
Maia was in action at UFC Brasil where he lost to Gilbert Burns in front of an empty crowd.
The 42-year-old has fought in two weight classes and was close to winning the belt in both of them. However, Maia was unable to get either of the UFC Middleweight or the Welterweight titles.
Maia holds the record of most submission wins in UFC Middleweight history with two other men (5) and has also never tapped out in his MMA career.
The 42-year-old is married to a Renata, and his wife works for a magazine. There isn’t a lot of information available regarding Renata but a few photos are available.
The pair also have a daughter named Pietra Vieira Maia, but again, not much information is available regarding the young one too.
The 42-year-old is considered one of the best MMA stars of this generation, even though he hasn’t been able to lift a UFC title.
There are multiple reports of what his career earnings, salary and net worth is. Maia has earned over $100,000 per year as his salary since 2010, however, this amount has been split over the several fights in a year.
His estimated net worth is close to $2.8 million and that should grow as he continues his UFC career and looks forward to his next fight.
