Denis Viktorovich Shapovalov aka. Denis Shapovalov started playing tennis when he was just five years old. He started training at the Richmond Hill Country Club.
A great junior player, Shapovalov won his first junior singles title at the ITF G5 in Burlington, Ontario, in October 2013. Subsequently, he captured his second singles title in April 2014 at the ITF G5 in Burlington. Also, in July 2014, Shapovalov won the singles and doubles titles at the ITF G4 in San José.
Further, in 2015, Shapovalov won the 2015 US Open Junior Doubles title and in 2016, the 2016 Wimbledon Junior Singles title. As a junior, Shapovalov compiled a singles win/loss record of 86–32.
In 2017, Shapovalov turned into a pro. In the same year, which is 2017, he had a breakthrough performance at the 2017 Canadian Open, where he reached the semi-finals as an 18-year-old. In the semi-finals, he ultimately lost against Alexander Zverev.
Furthermore, Shapovalov also became the youngest player to reach an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 semi-finals. He also reached the semi-finals at the 2018 Madrid Open.
