Why Leicester City should go all out to sign Wylan Cyprien this summer?

Brendan Rodgers shocked the Celtic fans by moving back to the Premier League last month, although his start at Leicester City didn’t go according to the scripts. Watford’s Andre Gray scored a stoppage-time winner as the Foxes began life under new boss Brendan Rodgers in underwhelming fashion last weekend.

It was a tough pill to swallow for Rodgers and the travelling Leicester fans, especially after losing the game in the stoppage time. In fact, the visitors could have won the game very late had Wes Morgan not missed a glorious chance but it ended all smiles for the Hornets, with Rodgers walking away from the Vicarage Road without a single point.

Claude Puel’s sacking has seen Rodgers inherit a fantastic, youthful squad that is certainly capable of challenging for a top-six spot. If not the top six, the squad can at least finish best of the rest but the Northern Irish manager must have got a reality check after the defeat at Watford.

Despite having a young squad filled with high potential, Rodgers’s side have plenty of room for improvement and one of the areas certainly is the midfield. In Wilfried Ndidi and Nampalys Mendy, the Foxes have two solid holding midfielders but the team lacks a box-to-box presence.

Youri Tielemans, on loan from AS Monaco, has sparkled in the box-to-box role but Leicester need to have alternatives ready if they fail to sign the Belgian on a permanent basis in the summer. That said, Rodgers should plot a summer swoop for OGC Nice midfielder Wylan Cyprien.

Wylan Cyprien, 24, has enjoyed a good season with Nice, contributing with three goals and an assist in 25 Ligue 1 games. The Frenchman has mightily impressed with his displays in midfield since moving from Lens in 2016.

A product of the Lens youth system, Wylan Cyprien is a dynamic central midfielder who can also operate in a defensive role or as a no.10. The 24-year-old is calm and composed on the ball, always looks for forward passes and gets into promising positions to produce killer through balls for his teammates in the final third.

The former France youth international is a tireless worker and can drive forward with the ball through the middle of the park while creating and scoring in equal measure. An expert set-piece taker, Cyprien is also capable of producing moments of magic.

Cyprien is an all-action midfielder who’ll add more thrust and bite to Leicester’s midfield lacking a consistent goal threat. Not only that, at 24, he hasn’t even hit his peak years and yet has impressed in OGC Nice colours on a consistent basis.

Hence, the Foxes should go all out to land the Frenchman this summer.
