Joanna Jedrzejczyk was one of the big names fighting at UFC 275 but did she retire?
UFC 275 had one intriguing match that wasn’t for a title. There was the much-anticipated rematch from UFC 248 between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Zhang Weili.
The first fight between the pair was for the UFC Women’s Strawweight title, and it went the five rounds. Both women put on a striking show, and many consider this to be one of the best title fights in MMA history.
Jedrzejczyk had been out of action since that 2020 fight but made her come back at UFC 275. However, the fight didn’t go her way as Weili knocked out the former champion with a spinning back-fist.
The Pole then took off her gloves after the loss and confirmed that she did had decided to retire.
“Guys, I love life so much,” Jedrzejczyk said as she spoke with in-cage interviewer Daniel Cormier following the loss. “I’m retired, guys. I love you so much. Thank you for the support.” (H/t SI)
One of the greatest to have ever fought
The Pole might have only fought 21 times in the Octagon but she ends her career with 16 wins and only five losses. She was 14-0 in her MMA career and her losses have come against Rose Namajunas, Valentina Shevchenko and Weili.
Jedrzejczyk is an accomplished Muay Thai fighter as well and won several titles and medals before moving to the UFC.
She is also the first Polish-born UFC Champion and holds several records that might never be broken.
Jedrzejczyk did a lot of great things for women looking to get into the MMA circuit, and she will go down as a legend of the sport, even though she was unable to get her belt back.
