Roger Federer, who lost in the French Open semi-finals last year, has not won a title there since 2009

Tony Godsick, the agent of Roger Federer, claimed his client will make one clay-court appearance this season at the French Open.

Federer had skipped the entire clay-court season back in 2017 and 2018. He played just two tournaments on the surface before competing at Roland Garros last year.

Unfortunately, it did not end well for the Swiss maestro as he lost in the semi-final to eventual champion Rafael Nadal.

Also, there was speculation that Federer would feature at the Madrid and Rome Masters – both clay-court tournaments en route to the French Open this year but it wasn’t to be.

“As his schedule states, he plans on playing just Roland Garros,” Godsick ended rumours regarding Federer’s schedule.

Federer, 38 now, has been cutting down on a number of tournaments in a bid to prolong his career.

Federer still confident despite Australian Open exit

Despite exiting in the semi-finals at the Australian Open, Federer believes he has the game to win more titles at Grand Slams.

The 20-time Grand Slam winner had earlier opted to stay out of the ATP Cup in Australia before the commencement of the Australian Open.

Federer had entered the Major event having not played a match since the ATP Finals in November last year. This seemed to have affected his game as he lost in the semi-finals to eventual champion Novak Djokovic.

Now it has been seven-straight Grand Slams without a title for Federer, who last won a title at the Australian Open in 2018, raising serious concerns about his form.

Federer has only won one title at the French Open (2009) and has failed to dominate on the clay-court.

That is considered as one of his great weaknesses, However, Federer thinks he can still win more:

“Yes, I do believe that. I think by having the year that I had last year, also with what I have in my game, how I’m playing, I do feel that, yeah,” he said confidently.

However, it remains to be seen if Federer’s decision to play the French Open would be good or bad.
