British No. 1 Cameron Norrie takes on the in-form Taylor Fritz in the semifinals of the Diriyah Tennis Cup in what promises to be a riveting clash.
Prior to the Diriyah Tennis Cup, Norrie played in the Paris Masters. However, his campaign didn’t go too well as he was ousted in the round of 32 by Corentin Moutet.
So far in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the 27-year-old has looked quite sharp in the two matches he has played. In the first round, Norrie made light work of Australia’s Nick Kyrgios. The Brit finished the match in straight sets 10-6, 10-6. In the quarterfinals, Norrie had a tough proposition as he faced top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek played his last match at the group stage of the ATP Finals against Rublev. In the first round, Tsitsipas received a bye. Norrie produced another confident display as he defeated Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-4.
The 25-year-old was awarded a first-round bye thanks to him being amongst the top-ranked players at the tournament. Fritz came into the tournament on the back of a semi-final exit at the ATP Finals.
In the quarterfinals, Fritz squared off against Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz. The latter made it to the last 8 with a win against Dominic Stricker 10-7, 10-5. Against Fritz, Hurkacz didn’t manage to show the same aggression and succumbed to a 6-7, 5-7 loss.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 6-5 in favor of Fritz. Fritz defeated Norrie in their most recent encounter at the 2022 Laver Cup in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 10-8.
Prediction: Taylor Fritz to win in straight sets.
