Stan Wawrinka

The 3-time Grand Slam champion played various tournaments on the tour this season. However, Wawrinka never really threatened to go the distance. His best performance came in the Moselle Open in Metz. Wawrinka reached the semifinal where he retired during his match against Alexander Bublik.

In the first round in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Wawrinka got the better of Italy’s Matteo Berrettini in three sets after dropping the first set. The match ended 5-10, 10-4, 10-6 in favor of the Swiss legend. Wawrinka followed it up with a huge upset in the quarterfinals against Andrey Rublev. The 37-year-old rolled back the years en route to a thrilling come-from-behind win against the world No. 8 Rublev. The match ended 6-7, 6-2, 10-6 in favor of the experienced campaigner.

Daniil Medvedev

The former world No. 1 most recently played at the ATP Finals prior to the Diriyah Tennis Cup. In the ATP Finals, Medvedev failed to make it to the semis. The Russian athlete was given a first-round bye as he is among the highest-ranked players in the tournament.
