Dirk Werner Nowitzki a.k.a Dirk Nowitzki was the 1998, Round 1, 9thoverall draft pick by the Milwaukee Bucks. However, after drafting, Bucks immediately traded Nowitzki to the Dallas Mavericks in a multi-team deal. Checkout the top 100 richest NBA players of all time.

Before joining the NBA, Nowitzki played in Germany for DJK Würzburg. DJK played in Germany’s 2nd-tier level league, the Second Bundesliga, South Division. Nowitzki played for DJK Würzburg from 1994 to 1998.

Then, in 1998, Nowitzki joined the NBA and was selected to play for the Dallas Mavericks. Nowitzki had an awful NBA rookie season and only averaged 8.2 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game in 20.4 minutes of playing time. However, in his second NBA season, that is the 1999-2000 season, Nowitzki averaged 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game in 35.8 minutes.

Prior to the 2001–02 NBA season, Nowitzki signed a massive six-year, $90 million contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks. In the 2001-02 season, Nowitzki was voted into the All-NBA Second Team and into his first All-Star Game.

In the 2005-06 season, Nowitzki went to the 2006 NBA Finals but ultimately lost the Finals against the Miami Heat.

Then in the 2006-07 season, Nowitzki was named the NBA’s regular-season Most Valuable Player and he also became the first European player in NBA history to receive the honor.

In the 2010-11 season, Nowitzki managed to reach the 2011 NBA Finals. In the Finals, the Mavericks faced the Miami Heat which was then led by LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. Nevertheless, Dallas defeated Miami and Nowitzki became the 2011 NBA champion and was also named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player.

On July 15, 2014, Nowitzki re-signed with the Mavericks to a reported three-year, $25 million contract. Notably, on December 26, 2014, Nowitzki passed Elvin Hayes for eighth place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

Further, on July 27, 2016, Nowitzki re-signed with the Mavericks. Again, on July 6, 2017, Nowitzki re-signed with the Mavericks on a two-year, $10 million contract (with a team option on the second year).

On July 23, 2018, Nowitzki re-signed with the Mavericks for the 2018–19 season. On March 18, 2019, Nowitzki became the sixth-highest-scoring player of all time, surpassing Wilt Chamberlain’s 31,419 points.
