Peyton Royce was left shocked after watching parts of the controversial Cuties film on Netflix

WWE star Peyton Royce was the latest voice calling out for the protection of children after catching a few minutes of the film Cuties on Netflix.

The film has been on the end of a lot of criticism recently. The French movie “Mignonnes”, called “Cuties” in its English title, is the story of 11-year-olds dancing in a sexualised manner.

There have already been a lot of calls from various countries to #CancelNetflix and many have called for the boycott of the service too.

However, it seems Netflix made a huge error with the poster which sexualised the young children. The movie actually won an award at the prestigious Sundance festival and didn’t use the rather distasteful poster that was used in America.

Netflix also apologised for using the wrong poster and shared what the movie is all about (h/t Variety):

“Cuties is a social commentary against the sexualization of young children. It’s an award-winning film and a powerful story about the pressure young girls face on social media and from society more generally growing up — and we’d encourage anyone who cares about these important issues to watch the movie.”

Royce left shocked

While there has been some support for the film with suggestions that the marketing for the movie was all wrong, Royce didn’t see it that way.

The WWE star saw some bits of the movie and couldn’t watch the final dance at all. She wanted more protection for children and didn’t want them exploited in any way.

The movie is a controversial one and there have been several such flicks in the past. It is to be seen what happens next and there could be some bans in regions which aren’t comfortable with the film.

However, the movie has won a big award too and the description from Netflix shares a completely different story to what the outrage is about.
