Arsenal fans will be really excited to find out what Unai Emery has in store for them. The manager will bring a fresh approach to this Arsenal side. Wenger’s long legacy will always be remembered but now it is time for a new one to carry the legacy forward. Arsenal have no Champions League football next season and hence, the manager will be hoping to make some signings in order to transform this team into title contenders once again.
The Gunners have already completed the signing of Juventus right-back Stephan Lichsteiner on a free transfer. The move was a shrewd one by Unai Emery. The club have also been linked with Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira, who is reportedly close to completing a £26m move, and Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri, who has a £35m release clause.
Torreira enjoyed a superb campaign with Sampdoria this past season, making a total of 36 appearances in the Serie A, scoring 4 goals and providing 1 assist in the process. The Uruguayan’s efforts have been rewarded with a place in the national team that is competing in this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.
He has excellent ball retention ability and is very quick on his feet. Arsenal could use a runner like him in the middle of the park. Arsenal often tend to crumble defensively during matches and signing Torreira could help solve that problem. Aged 22, the midfielder still has his best years ahead of him and could be Arsenal’s next big signing.
Jean Michael Seri, on the other hand, is from Ivory Coast and the Ivorians haven’t qualified for the World Cup this time. The midfielder made 30 appearances in the Ligue 1 this past season, scoring 2 goals and providing 5 assists. He joined Nice in 2013, going on to make more than 100 appearances for the club and becoming an integral part of the team.
The midfielder has an exceptional passing ability, often being able to pick out players from the tightest of situations. A clean passer of the ball would make a huge difference to the Arsenal midfield and that would give Ozil a lot more freedom to attack.
If Arsenal go on to sign them both, it would be a huge statement from the club, who haven’t finished in the top-four for two seasons running now. Unai Emery would certainly be aiming to bring in as much firepower he can and he can start doing so by wrapping up a deal for Jean Michael Seri and Lucas Torreira.
