Does Tessa Blanchard’s future now lie with WWE or AEW after Impact Wrestling release?

Tessa Blanchard was the Impact Wrestling Champion and she has appeared on WWE in the past

Impact Wrestling confirmed that they had released Tessa Blanchard and stripped her of the world title (h/t PWInsider).

The report claims that Blanchard had been on leave since Covid-19 and was supposed to send in promo material for the Slammiversary PPV.

She has been in Mexico all this while and the report added that attempts to get her to drop the title also didn’t work.

The PPV was set for 18 July but the main event featured Blanchard defending the title against three others. Blanchard is the first woman to hold a men’s world championship in wrestling, however, she has since been stripped of that.

Fightful also confirmed that Blanchard’s deal with Impact was to expire on 30 June, and it seems they fired her a few days early.

Is WWE or AEW calling Tessa Blanchard?

AEW already has a formidable women’s roster now and Blanchard could be a decent addition to the company.

Blanchard also appears on other indie shows, and joining AEW would allow her to continue doing that as they produce just one weekly show, if AEW Dark isn’t brought up.

Her links with WWE are greater though. She is the daughter of WWE legend Tully Blanchard, one of the Four Horsemen.

She did try out for WWE in the past but was unable to finalise a move. However, she has appeared several times on WWE programming.

Blanchard has faced Alexa Bliss in 2016 on NXT but lost to the Goddess in her WWE debut. Further, she also wrestled Nia Jax and Carmella but lost both matches.

Blanchard also appeared on the Mae Young Classic in 2017 but was defeated by Kairi Sane in the first round.

While she could be a coveted free agent given all that she accomplished on Impact, there have been accusations of racial abuse early on in the year.

Sienna (Allysin Kay) claimed that Blanchard had used derogatory terms against another female wrestler and spat at her face.

Many others also came out to speak against Blanchard, but the former Impact Wrestling star denied all these allegations.

Chelsea Green of WWE also came out and spoke against Blanchard a while back.

Blanchard is one of the top women in wrestling, and it is to be seen what her next move could be.
